If you zoom in on the Netherlands, you can see our huge mountain range.

The famous Durch Alps.

You're talking about that sand pile behind that one restaurant, right? Yeah, that thing's really impressive.

In case you didn't know why The Netherlands/Belgium are called the low counties

3

u/unlawfulg Aug 01 '21

South Belgium lookin kinda thicc tho

33

u/the-non-wonder-dog Jul 31 '21

For some reason I always imagined Turkey to be mostly flat.

12

u/TheEwwShaman Jul 31 '21

Same, I certainly didn't expect it to be basically an eastern Alps.

28

u/Polnauts Jul 31 '21

I think it's more like an eastern Spain, full of plateaus

Cast iron, screaming hot

2

u/mbgal1977 Jul 31 '21

I was thinking the same thing. Also Spain and Northern Africa is a surprise.

10

u/NTMonsty Jul 31 '21

You can very clearly make out France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Scandinavia here.

Why the hell is Poland?

13

u/twalingputsjes Aug 01 '21

The germans asked the same question

15

u/si1versmith Jul 31 '21

Well that's a relief.

10

u/OnionOnion- Jul 31 '21

Yo north Italy is so flat

7

u/avsman Jul 31 '21

That valley is home to most of Italy’s industry

6

u/gratisargott Jul 31 '21

Northern Italy is up in the mountains. Slightly less northern Italy is flat.

u/leavethisearth Jul 31 '21

Is there a relief mal that doesn’t just stop at the shore, but shows the land under the ocean/seas?

5

u/skan76 Jul 31 '21

I think I'll post it tomorrow

3

u/leavethisearth Jul 31 '21

Cool, thanks Skan!

Bathymetry

6

u/Strzvgn_Karnvagn Jul 31 '21

i can make out switzerland, mostly because of the lakes and im surprised that das Mittelland (the Swiss Plain or how you call it) is so small, we’re really a small country

Beautiful map

1

u/suvankha Jul 31 '21

I didn’t realize Norway is mostly all mountainous! Super cool!

-3

u/1octo Jul 31 '21

Why is the Northeastern part of Ireland in the UK? It makes no sense.

6

u/skan76 Jul 31 '21

Colonization

2

u/I_HATE_BAKED_BEANS Aug 01 '21

They want to be in the uk, and they don't want to be in the ROI

1

u/adnan_z_ Jul 31 '21

YEA THANK YOU

1

u/Koksschnupfen Jul 31 '21

Oh my God yes!! This is exactly what I wanted when I saw the map earlier today.

1

u/CuomoKilledGma Jul 31 '21

I love that you can see Jan Mayen and the shadow the Berrenberg volcano makes.

1

u/Gekey14 Jul 31 '21

It's weird how few political borders can be seen in this clearly U can see vague outlines and can kinda make out the Baltics and the low countries but otherwise, unless u know what you're looking for, u can't really tell Except for France/Spain, that's basically a straight line

1

u/myles_cassidy Jul 31 '21

Is coastal Libya the same height above sea level as the mountains in Norway? Because they are both the same colour.

1

u/DankRepublic Aug 01 '21

The mountains in Norway are about twice as tall. I took the coast near El Beida under consideration.

0

u/krisdahl Aug 01 '21

No. This map is completely off scale. Even Mount Everest wouldn’t be as high as these mountains are

1

u/Tobby_96 Aug 01 '21

From the map you can see A-H empire

1

u/ianishomer Aug 01 '21

Love the maps on here and I would.love to own copies of a few to line my walls.

Do people sell them? Anyone any good sites for these type of maps??

1

u/ggchappell Aug 01 '21

Nice.

Zoom in on Crete, and it looks kinda otherworldly. But Google Maps shows that, indeed, there are three big peaks (west-to-east: Pachnes, Psiloritis, Spathi), although the relief map enormously exaggerates their height.

1

u/countingoffthedays Aug 01 '21

Great map, you can see the hill less beauty of the fens

1

u/nibar1997 Aug 02 '21

How do you make these maps xD? Are there any tutorials to follow?

1

u/xoxoarm Aug 09 '21

Wish it showed more of Anatolia and also the Caucasus mountains 🥺🥺

1

u/BaldFraud99 Aug 17 '21

How the Danube manages to sneak through all of that elevation is crazy
