As a workaround I created shortcuts to change the playback destination. They work reliably.

The next big performance thing they're doing for AE is multi-frame rendering

Even further, the composition settings calculate how much RAM each frame is expected to take up

That might exist as a feature on live switchers, but my thought is he did it in post. I think of the placeholder video as just a blank screen with a timer and/or his script.

I didn't realize there was that much subtext until seeing this comment. It makes a lot more sense when you think of all the pictures as coming from a single character.

One of my favorite bits! It becomes a bit easier when you think of it as a single take. Presumably he wrote multiple sections of dialogue around the same length, and then just said one after the other in a single recording session. Additionally, he could have made a placeholder video to help with the timing and watched it as he recorded.

I didn’t know about this, but that sounds very useful

After Effects caches every frame into RAM for playback, making it easy to max out

I didn’t realize The Veronicas were real until the last 5 minutes

Looks like my 2014 15” MacBook Pro is finally too old. Hopefully the M1X 16” comes out soon.

Ah, so this shouldn't change much for you. Even if you used the iOS code generator on the old phone instead whichever authenticator app you use, the passwords and code generation would still be on separate devices.

COMMENT 7d ago

You use a separate device like a YubiKey to generate your codes?

COMMENT 7d ago

The single point of failure is inherent to any authenticator app that generates a code. All the iOS update does is build the code generation into the OS instead of a third party app.

COMMENT 7d ago

I used to use the default Screen Sharing app. It requires approval on the remote device for non-local control, so I would initiate a request and use Chrome Remote Desktop to accept the request.

Not sure I understand the issue here. Are you required to use the radar altimeter at night, or just required to have it as an option? Does having it as an option prevent you from having a different piece of equipment available?

Thanks for catching this. I couldn’t find it in my searches.

This is a weird situation.

They shouldn’t have hired him in the first place if they were made aware of the book. My guess is the people who hired didn’t vet thoroughly or underestimated the backlash they would get. The decision to fire was most likely in response to the backlash, and could have been made by a different group of people.

If this all happened in the past couple months, I’m surprised he had to uproot his life and couldn’t work remotely.

“That book is not me now, it wasn’t even me then,” he said. “To be honest, there was a literary persona. I was trying to create a style in my naive, first-time book writer sort of way, which in retrospect, I think was a mistake and I regret much of it.”

Weird approach to an autobiography.
